Our skin is incredible at healing, but how can you help reduce the chances of your skin scarring as it repairs after surgery or an accident?
Whether a scar is left at the site of a wound or not, it is linked to the whole healing process – and that means supporting the process is key if you’re keen to avoid scarring.
So, what are the best ways to help treat a wound, so it heals optimally?
Firstly, it’s crucial to clean the site (using washed hands) with clear water and a gentle soap or saline solution.
Once washed, ensuring the wound is protected (so dirt can’t enter) and kept moist is a must, so it doesn’t dry out and scab, as that can contribute to scarring.
With a higher concentration of oil than creams, In Awe’s Kakadu Plum & Beeswax Skin Ointment is ideal as it creates a thick, protective barrier on the surface of the skin that stays on for longer. This helps aid healing by keeping the skin hydrated while also allowing the skin to breathe.
The natural purified beeswax in our product contains sterols, which have a softening and lubricating effect on the skin. Better yet, beeswax has antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties, reducing the chances of the wound getting infected, which can impact healing and, in turn, scarring.
What about Kakadu Plum? This Aussie superfruit is supercharged with vitamin C and Vitamin E, which is essential for soothing skin, as well as restoring its elasticity.
Additionally, Kakadu Plum is rich in natural ellagic and gallic acids which have anti-inflammatory properties. This is essential as excessive inflammation can cause greater scarring.
Once clean and covered, ensure the site is covered with a bandage or non-stick gauze pad and some easy-to-remove tape.
