In Awe Blog: How to Maintain your Skin Health While on Vacation

Travelling can rejuvenate our soul, but it can also wreak havoc on our skin.

From the inevitable vacation-induced diet changes to the ultra-dehydrating effects of flying, it’s crucial to make skin health a priority when travelling.

Hydration is everything

Keeping your skin glowing on holiday first and foremost comes down to keeping it hydrated.

While often essential, flying is not usually great for our skin. We often drink less water, eat fewer fresh, water-packed foods and are exposed to lower humidity levels in aeroplane cabins, meaning there’s less moisture in the air. All of this can cause skin to become dehydrated, dull, dry or irritated.

To ensure your skin stays hydrated and to create a protective barrier, we recommend using In Awe’s Kakadu Plum and Beeswax Ointment while flying and vacationing. Our ointment contains more oil and less water than creams, meaning it stays on longer and holds moisture in the skin better, aiding hydration. Beeswax also boasts antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, ideal for using on potentially germ-riddled planes!

Sun protection is paramount

Whether you’re heading to the snow or a sunny holiday destination, protecting your skin from the sun is a must. Wearing an SPF sunscreen is also necessary while flying because UV levels are stronger at high altitudes and UV rays can penetrate plane windows.

In Awe’s SPF50+ Mineral ZINC Sunscreen Lotion and our SPF50 Sunscreen Lotion are Australian-made, deeply hydrating for the skin, vitamin C-packed and non-greasy. Both natural formulas protect your skin from potentially harmful UVA and UVB rays and because they’re rated SPF50, they’re estimated to filter 98% of UVB radiation.

Our mineral lotion is also reef friendly, so even if you’re travelling to Hawaii – where sunscreens must be free of chemicals detrimental to coral health – you’ll have no problems with our trusted products!

Top tip: Make sure your sunscreen is approved by the TGA, which regulates the sale of therapeutic sunscreens in Australia to ensure they’re safe and effective.

Abide by travel rules

Don’t forget, most flights limit the size of liquids you can take on board to 100ml or 100 grams.

In Awe’s Essential Skincare Bundle includes two perfect travel sized products: a 75g tube of SPF50+ Mineral Sunscreen Lotion and a 50g Kakadu Plum & Beeswax Skin Ointment. It also includes a 150g tube of SPF50 Sunscreen Lotion for packing in your suitcase!
